Thermochemical Conversion & Biochar Workshop

Save the date for the Thermochemical Conversion & Biochar Workshop, which will be held as a virtual conference at 1:00pm (EST) on Thursday, October 29, 2020! This event (previously scheduled for April 20) will be held via Zoom. This event will bring together academic, industry and government stakeholders interested in developing opportunities for New York State to meet its organics management as well as renewable energy and climate change goals using thermochemical conversion of biomass and waste. The planned sessions will build on the inaugural workshop held at Cornell University in July 2019 https://pyrolysis.cals.cornell.edu/workshop-july-16-2019/?

Register for the online event here. If you have any questions about the virtual event, please contact Tom Trabold, RIT Golisano Institute for Sustainability (tatasp@rit.edu).

Attendees will hear/learn from:

  • Policy and program experts from NYS government agencies
  • Researchers from leading NYS universities
  • Technology solution developers and providers

Discussion topics include:

  • How NYS can move from conventional organic waste management to a more integrated and circular system
  • How thermochemical conversion and biochar can help NYS address climate change goals, organic materials management, and clean energy generation
  • Developing coordination among various stakeholders: researchers, policymakers, solution providers, financiers, etc.
  • Research support needed for policy implementation
