Representatives from NYSERDA, NYS Ag & Markets and NYS DEC met at Cornell’s Pyrolysis Facility for a tour and presentations by Dr. Johannes Lehmann (Professor, Soil and Crop Sciences) and Curt Gooch (Cornell’s Pro-Dairy). Organized by CALS Associate Dean for Governmental and Community Relations, Julie Suarez, the tour was meant to complement a series of faculty engagements representatives were attending which showcased Cornell’s innovative research in bioenergy crops, renewable energy technologies, efficient energy storage and anaerobic digestion/bioenergy production from NYS dairy farms. Dr. Lehmann presented on the potential for waste mitigation, carbon sequestration, and enhanced soil fertility through pyrolysis and biochar. Attendees were able to take biochar samples home which was a crowd pleaser! 🙂
